  • July 10th, 2008: RNEWS interviews Christopher Burns for commentary in response to City Council Committee's passage of legislation regarding the subway tunnel fill plans to be voted on July 15th, 2008

  • July 8th, 2008: Rochester City Council Members Carolee Conklin, Lovely Warren, and Elaine Spaull tour the subway tunnel with the City's Tom Hack and Jim McIntosh; Alan Oberst and Christopher Burns participate to add information to the City's presentations.

 

  • July 1st, 2008: WHAM Channel 13's Sean Carroll inteviews SECR's Christopher Burns for updates and insights on the City's current plans to fill the northwest section of the Rochester Subway tunnel, especially in light of the results of the Public Visioning Workshop.   • June 17th, 2008: Members of SECR speak to Rochester City Council during the monthly Council meeting. We were approached by a couple members of Council for additional information on the current status of the tunnel and the fill project. Please click here for details of the day!

 

  • June 12, 2008: Brian Sharp of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle writes an article, "Rochester's old tunnel issue rises from holes on West Broad," about the City's plans to close a lane of traffic on West Broad Street due to deteriorating road conditions. Click Here for the article.

  • June 11, 2008: City of Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy issues a statement with respect to a lane closure and planned fill of the Broad Street Corridor / Subway Tunnel-- Click Here for the Statement.

 

 

 

  • June 11, 2008: Brian Sharp of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle writes an article, "Safety concerns to close one lane of West Broad Street," about the City's plans to close a lane of traffic on West Broad Street due to deteriorating road conditions. Click Here for the article.

 

  • June 10, 2008: SECR has sent an Open Community Letter and Press Release out to community leaders, stakeholders and media partners regarding the planned subway tunnel fill project, inviting all persons to comment to the City on the proposed project and become involved in the effort to assure a complete study is undertaken before any decisions are made.

 

  • June 9, 2008: The City of Rochester has scheduled a Public Visioning Session for the Broad Street Corridor and Erie Canal Aqueduct / Broad Street Bridge from 10am to 3pm on Saturday June 28th, 2008 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.   • June 5, 2008: For the first time in over two years, SECR members meet and formally re-energize our community activism group, laying plans for awareness-raising, outreach, and strategies. 

 

  • May 29, 2008: The City of Rochester holds a lightly promoted and sparsely attended Public Hearing where it is announced the City plans ("preferred alternative") to begin filling a major portion of the Rochester Subway Tunnel beginning in late 2008.
